What colours have the biggest impact on the selling power of your website?
In my experience I would say that this largely depends on who your target audience is and what it is you’re selling
.
For example, if your website is selling an ebook on lawn care you would get a better response to shades of green than you would if you used shades of red. Your choice of colour is mostly just common sense. A great way of confirming your choice is simply take a look at the colours of 10 other websites selling a similar product. This will then give you a great idea about what colours are working the best in that particular market place.
If you’re selling anything to a business market I recommend using more subdued colours like blue, green and possibly red if you careful with it’s use. Again I would just pay attention to a cross section of other websites selling or offering something similar, just to get a good feel for what works within that market place.
Here’s a great piece of free online software you can use that helps you to create colour schemes for your website once you’ve found the colours to use:

Hi Brian, thanks for the link to the cool online application! your advice about checking out 10 other sites is such a simple idea, it onlly stands to reason that if a color works well then lots of people will be using it so why reinvent the wheel?
Keep up the great work on this superb blog of yours!
